The Final & Retrospective
Well, that was the 2018 World Cup!
France are Champions of the World and can confidently look forward to the future. Croatia were the plucky losers in their first ever World Cup Final and Belgium’s ‘Golden Generation’ had to make do with third place, after beating England in the 3rd Place Play-off. To be honest England did far, far better than I was expecting, but such were our collective raised expectations, that there was a definite air of ‘what might have been’ on the day of the Final.
As for Russia, the whole event turned out to be light years better than we had any right to expect. It seemed to be well organised and there didn’t seem to be any reports of violence, so that was all good. As far as the matches were concerned, there were some absolutely cracking games and the overall feeling was that this was one of the better World Cups.
IBO’s coverage seemed to work well and the quality of the reporting was generally excellent, with a nice breadth of styles. Thanks to all the reporters involved.
Although the next World Cup is in four years time in Qatar, IBO will be back covering the 2020 Euro’s, which will be in France. I for one, look forward to that. See you there.
